"German Tech is a living example of sustainable German Development Cooperation in Sri Lanka," stated the German Ambassador Jens Ploetner addressing a distinguished gathering at the annual intake of Ceylon-German-Technical Training Institute.
The Minister of Road Passenger Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna chaired the ceremony and the Guest speaker was the German Ambassador.
Ploetner reiterating Germany’s longstanding commitment to the advancement of technical and vocational education in Sri Lanka added "Germany is pleased to help Sri Lankan youth in obtaining an internationally recognised qualification in the automotive industry.
"This is an excellent opportunity for you to be partners in shaping your country’s future as a peaceful, equitable and sustainable nation."
CGTTI, widely known as the German Tech was set up as part of a bilateral agreement signed between the two countries in 1959.
The Institute, now administered by Sri Lanka is a partner school of a German vocational training school in the Federal State of Baden Württemberg, Germany.
Seminars, teacher-training courses and equipment are sponsored by Baden Württemberg.
The gathering included 350 trainees, staff members, parents and interested invitees.
This year was special as examinations were held in Vavuniya and Trincomalee to include trainee recruitments from the North and East of Sri Lanka as well.
